I don’t know which one is the original song, this one, or the one sung by a 60’s rock band ( have forgotten the name of the band )

The original was done by The Animals in 1965. For some reason, I find this song timeless, no matter what time you want it to be. There have been several cover versions, but as they say, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.

She was definitely misunderstood with her political activism and the whole black panthers thing, it killed her career, but still one of my faves.

Mine too! There is a great documentary about her on Netflx. She was an artist ahead of her time, and I think being an African-American woman in her time, must have created a lot of obstacles.
