I’d bake a raspberry cheesecake
but I can buy one for cheaper
I could go to the zoo
but I have a chipmunk who likes to sit upon my shoulder
I used to spread myself thin
now I water the rose garden
I could talk about how I’m feeling
then suddenly I am begging your pardon
I’ve seen better days
but I am looking to the future
Iost and found posters on the telephone pole
are fruitless because I got myself to somewhere better.
You could buy a cheap raspberry cheesecake, but I bet it wouldn’t taste as good as a homemade one 🙂

Thanks for the compliment and the warm welcome….I sometimes which side of the cage I’m on in this zoo we call life. Either way, I’m pleased to have you on my side and reading what you have to say about all of this. Peace, Harlon

I love your writing, Harlon. I’m trying to put my finger on it. There’s a playfulness masked as matters-of-fact, but also there’s an intimacy with self that is incisive. It leaves me thoughtless, in the best of ways, like I turned the corner and realized someone a hundred years ago left me a note tacked to a city bench… “Hey–! You. Don’t forget to pick up a bag of coffee on the way home.”

Thank you Michael, your words really touched me….and if I can somehow leave you thoughtless, then you have most certainly leave me speechless.
